American Ecology'sRichland. Washington site was named a Voluntary Protection schedule (VPP)"Star" site last week by the State of Washington joining the Company'sGrand View. Idaho and Robstown. Texas sites in receiving this prestigiousrecognition. The affiliate's Beatty. Nevada place was awarded Safety andHealth Achievement and Recognition schedule status earlier this year.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) initiated theVoluntary Protection schedule (VPP) in 1982 and works with state agenciesand private companies to keep worker protection programs that exceedOSHA requirements. As a result the average VPP worksite boasts safetystatistics that are twice as good as industry averages. Only 1,843 workplaces in the country apply VPP status. Participating companies areselected based on their health and safety management systems and provensafety performance.
